DIY Apothecary Jars



Hi everyone! It is Monday night and I am spent.  I got up and exercised before heading over to the landfill to see if I could find Tom's pen (see yesterday's post for an explanation).  No luck.  The truck was dumped and the garbage covered, whatever that means.  All it means to me is that the pen is gone and I can get on with my life.  ;)  Then I decorated for Christmas!!!  I have a bunch of things to show you coming up in December.

Today I want to share how to make your very own apothecary jars for under $10 that I did for a guest post earlier this month.  These are awesome for any season because you can pick one color for the base and lid, then fill the jars with candies to suit the season.

Step #1: A trip to the thrift store where I bought three mason jars and three different sized vases for a total of $3.75.

Step #2: Wash those suckers.  I used the dishwasher, but you could hand wash them if you want to deal with it.

Step #3: Spray paint the vases.

Step #4: Glue the mason jar lids to the rims, and then glue the knobs (I got mine on clearance at Ikea) to the lids.  I used super glue for this step.  

Step #5: Spray paint the lids the same color as the vases.

 Step #6: Gorilla Glue the mason jars to the top of the vases.  This glue works like a charm!
Finally, for step #7 I filled the jars with candy and screwed the lids on.



I really love mason jars right now but I also like the jars that Hobby Lobby has so I think I'll grab me some of those since I have already used these mason jars for another project.  DIY ADD, people.

    oh girl these look amazing! I bought some old candle sticks at Goodwill for $1 a while ago and I've been trying to brainstorm what to do with them!

    Your project came out great! I feel the pain on the pen, I once had a gold Cross pen, wish I knew were that was….. That was corporate life now I have lots of craft supplies. Happy pen hunting this holiday season (at the stores) not the dump!!!! Laura

    LOVE this idea! What a great say to upcycle! I think you could also use old spaghetti sauce or pickle jars and the like.....cheaper and another way to recycle. Thanks so much for posting! This is one of the most clever and cute ideas I've seen in a month of Sundays!
