The 2nd Day of Christmas: Starlight Mint Frame

I had such a great day yesterday full of shopping, a doctor's appointment (where I forgot to tell him half of the reason I was there... grrr), and the first Christmas party of the season.  It was lots of fun and since I am the new girl, I am so happy to be included.

The party theme was "my favorite things" so we each brought 5 of our favorite things that cost $6 to give away.  I came home with some super great things, one was a green vase that is going to be the feature of a future post!  Oh, and I have to tell you about the house where the party was.  When you walk in there is a big spiral staircase... with ZEBRA carpet!  I'm dying at how fantastic it was!  Maybe she'll let me snap a picture for you.

Anyway, I decided to go with the whole "12 DIY decor days of Christmas" so welcome to day #2: Starlight Mint Frame.

I bought this foam board at the dollar store a few days ago.  I didn't have a clue what I would be doing with it.  I just knew that there was a project with it somewhere.

I cut a piece of the board the size of a piece of paper.

A few days ago I pinned this great printable at Capital B.  The "Behold Your King" just gives me chills.  You know, like the true meaning of Christmas.  Anyway, I printed them the full size of the paper and decoupaged them to the foam board that I had cut.  I used card stock but if I did it again I would definitely use photo paper because the card stock wrinkled with the decoupage and it looked really crappy so I took some antiquing glaze and tried to make it look old instead of crappy (the one on the right).

Next I glued starlight mints (I'm obsessed with them this season!) around the entire print with hot glue.

And finally I put it on the mantle, which is still a work in progress.

I really like the frame but I would prefer it if the print was not antiqued.  The gray just looks better fresh.

Linking up at the great Linky parties found at the bottom of the blog.  They are where I find most of my inspiration!  Check them out!
