The 9th Day of Christmas: Advent Calendar

Unless I'm completely mistaken (which would not be a unusual -- just ask Tom), today marks the "1st day of Christmas" in the actual 12 days of Christmas countdown (or is it really the 2nd?).  So, for my 9th day of DIY decor Christmas, I decided to make an advent calendar that can be hung on the wall.

Last year I bought some Christmas cards after the holidays so they were like 90% off.  They had this little design on them so I cut out 12 of them.

Then I laminated them.  I got a laminator for Christmas last year and this was the first time I used it.

I had an extra 16x20 canvas lying around so I covered it in wrapping paper.  First I tried to decoupage it but that soooooo didn't work.

I settled with taping the wrapping paper onto the back of the canvas.

Then I hot glued plastic clothes pins onto the front of the wrapped canvas.

And here it is.

I used dry erase marker to write activities on the back of the "ornaments" and I wrote the day number on the clothes pins.  They are both washable in case I want to start over.

This barely falls in the category "DIY decor."  Actually it might be just outside of the line.  I did it because I think that kids will have fun with it and when I need an extra canvas, I'll know exactly where to look.  :)

  2. This is a cute idea. It is fun to have an advent calendar - I have not taken ours out in years but making your own is much better and you will probably use it more.
