There is a price difference in the two houses, but we could afford either. I am at a loss as to what to do. I love our old house. I love my friends there and how close it is to the freeway, water park, and pretty much everything -- but it is far enough away from everything too.
I would paint inside for sure, so I would get to "fix up" a house either way. The other one is closer to family and most shopping. And although the price difference is not a problem, it is nice to save more money every month. Our old house has more potential for value (from an investment standpoint).
What would you do? Help!?
oy! i know that it wuld be nice to be close to family, but is it family you go and see regularly? I know that some of my friends are closer to me than some family. Savings is nice too but really i find where ever you feel like home is best. We had a similiar oppurtunity (we moved to a different neighborhood but our old house never rented or sold so we had to move back after a year thank goodness the new house was a rental) and our old home that we got to go back too is "home" we will never move from there until we are old & gray and can't take care of it anymore. Good Luck! And the worst you will have to do it loose some earnest money but in the big pix it might be worth it.

ReplyDeleteWe aren't good at making $ w/ houses, so you shouldn't listen to me. However, I think you should buy the house that makes sense for your family the most in the long run. Better neighborhood, schools, friends etc and place the cost second (as long as you can make the payments).
ReplyDeleteUnder contract + additional $ saved + being closer to family makes me lean towards sticking with the first house. But the shopping thing almost erases that in my book. If you lived in the house you're under contract on, would it be too tempting to spend your monthly "savings" at that Target? Because if that's the case, your old house would be a much better investment.
ReplyDeleteHands down I'd go with the house closer to family. Being close to family solves a lot of issues from needing help with projects and kids, to being able to be closer for events and things. So, whichever house is closer to family would win out!
ReplyDeleteI always feel like we leave energy in a house we have lived in--so if you love it you should go back to the old house! Then again, if you are looking for a new start..than maybe not. Sorry I'm not much help!
ReplyDeleteI've never bought a house, so I don;t have my own opinion. But I'll say to you what I'd say to my husband. "Sounds like you've already decided." Reading this post I get the feeling YOU want the old house- and are somehow feeling like you need the go ahead to follow your gut. I'm the same way. Old house!
ReplyDeleteI would go for the old house! I love it, Plus it has a pool! I am trying to talk Devin into putting a pool in our back yard. Also if I lived close to target I would spend ALL my extra savings money there. I guess it is good that I don't live near anything!

ReplyDeletei'd not go back to the old house. There's no yard. Pools make me nervous for many reasons, especially with small children. Not just yours, but neighbor kids.
