Feature Friday: Front Porch

I love fall.  So much.  But I think this year is the first that I can actually say that fall is my favorite season.  I usually like springtime and summer but lately it seems that winter lasts through spring and I just end up getting frustrated with the cold and windy weather.  Besides the yummy food, tons of festivities, and mild temperatures, fall is my favorite to decorate.  That's why this post is about our front porch.

You know that I try to make or upcycle most of my decor, so here is the breakdown of the costs -- and I do this to help those of you who think decorating costs a lot.  It doesn't have to but you do have to work with what you have.  

door wreath - FREE - made with stuff I already had

pumpkins - $10 from neighbor

rug - FREE - painted it

yellow chair - $5 thrift store find plus $4 for paint

bench - $10 garage sale find plus free paint

pillows - FREE - came with a rocking chair that I bought at a garage sale (I have some outdoor pillows that I would like better but I can't find them -- pretty sure they're still packed in the garage from the move)

iron hanging thing - FREE - my friend gave it to me when she moved (I'll give it back when she is ready)

pot - FREE - previous owners of our old house left it there

weed stalk - FREE - picked from side of road

What do you think for $29?  You can all do something like this (to your taste) inexpensively with things you already have, right?

I realize that the rug doesn't exactly match the decor but I had three options of free paint and turquoise was the only one that went with the rug.  I tried to tie the decor in by tying a turquoise string around the weed stalk.  I would like to add more pops of turquoise to bring it all together but for now, I'm good.  That's a staging tip, by the way.  When something doesn't go because of color and it's the only thing you can use (i.e. ugly gold counter top) bring in that color with your decor so it looks like it goes.
