You know that cheap white spray paint that you bought because you thought it would do the job but it just didn't cover well at all? Don't tell me I'm the only one who has done this. Anyone? Well anyway, I found the reason that stuff was made... Dollar store Christmas village!
I found this tutorial on 36th Avenue (awesome blog, BTW) and realized that I needed to copy.
This is an $18 village from Dollar Tree. If you've priced these out, you've probably found that the most inexpensive villages are around $15 per piece. That makes this 18 piece set for $18 (hence dollar store) so fab.
I got the spray paint at Home Depot or Lowes for $1 forever ago and it really was crappy for the other projects I wanted to use it for so it sat there half full (look at me be an optimist) for months.
So I used it to spray the village.
I love how you can still see the color through the white. LOVE it!
And here it is all set up in the dining nook.
Linking up at the great Linky parties found at the bottom of the blog. They are where I find most of my inspiration! Check them out!

What an excellent idea! Those villages can get expensive!
ReplyDeleteWow! I like it too! Just looks like the villagers woke up to a frosty morning. :-)
ReplyDeleteWHAT A GREAT IDEA!! We are moving in a couple of months and right now our house is pretty small and there is no room for additional decor but I have plans to hit up the after christmas sales to buy a big ole tree and new decorations. I will FOR SURE be buying a cheap nativity set and spray painting them. I cant wait!
ReplyDeleteKelli, who knew that cheap-o, bad coverage SP could work so well...?? Oh yeah, YOU!
ReplyDeleteNice job!
As always,

Kelli! This is genius! Well, you are genius, but we already knew that. :) I am going to see if I can do one of these for my daughter this year. TOO CUTE! Thanks for all of the great ideas. Love them!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out perfect. I would have never thought about doing that. I passed up several little villages at a yard sale last month(free) I could have done this (darn)
ReplyDeleteSpotted you again, Kelli- partying your heart out! So sweet! Just like YOU!

Wish I could find a set at a price like that around here! I really want to have a set all the way across the living room windowsill.
ReplyDeleteClever idea and looks fantastic! I may have to start thinking of buying some dollar store village pieces. Diane
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try these as soon as my kids are old enough to not use them as weapons...it looks so cute. I use to buy them at craft stores and paint them as gifts...so if you wanted them totally white, it could be an option...not sure how much they cost though. I like how the color shows through on your version...I'll have to tell my mom to buy some white spray paint!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at Dollar Store! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYour Village is beautiful! And the fact that you got it at the Dollar Store? Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!!

thanks for sharing @ creative juice!
Looks perfect now after your touch! I too like the faint blush of color.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I have an entire box of village mis-matched village pieces that have made their way to me over the years. I've been trying to tone down the whole "red & green" theme this year, so I've left them out.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to give this a whirl as I have that exact "low cost" spray paint in my closet right now!
Lora
What a great idea. I haven't picked-up a little town like this simply because of the colours but now my head is spinning with what I could do.
ReplyDeleteThank-you so much for adding your creativity to our Pin'Inspiration Party this week.

I love the hint of color too. Paint is our friend.

ReplyDeleteLOL -- I have that same paint . . . yep, it's only good for certain things but I love the way it finished off your village -- great job!
