Feature Friday: Master Bedroom

Have you ever had anything -- like a big piece of furniture in a room -- completely block your creativity?  I consider myself a relatively creative person, but decorating my master bedroom has been a hard thing for me in this house.  Why?  Because there was this massive 55 inch flat screen T.V. (broken, might I add) that the owner of the house left here and it has been sitting in my bedroom against they wall completely blocking any and all creativity that was trying to enter the room.  Finally on Wednesday I got sick of it and moved the heavy piece of junk out of my bedroom (actually, completely out of the house).  I feel so much better now!  Anyway, then I spent the next 30 minutes cleaning and three hours after that rearranging furniture, hanging pictures, and placing decor.

So, I want to introduce you to my new, much more creative, master bedroom -- the one room in which I LOVE the paint color.

This picture is taken from the entrance.  The door across the room is to the master bath.

I made the sunburst mirror (tutorial here) and the lamps (tutorial here).

Since the lamp shades are burlap, I wanted to tie in some of the wall hangings.  And of course I added our pictures after spray painting the frames yellow instead of the turquoise that they were.

(before)

(after) I got the flower thing at Joann's on clearance for a couple bucks.

I put the "big fat peach chair" (that is no longer peach -- see reupholster tutorial here) in the corner with that iron tree thingy with mason jars and candles hanging from the "branches."

I made our family picture into a canvas (tutorial to come next week), framed it, and hung it up.

Just FYI, the bedroom set is from Pier 1 and it wasn't super inexpensive, although if you can find it there now I bet it will be since it is over 5 years old.

And the rest of the decor was gradually acquired.  I would also love to get rid of the fan and put in a chandelier, but let's be honest.  We are renting only until this house sells or forecloses, and whichever happens will happen in less than a year.   That is not enough time to mess with a ceiling fan, in my opinion.

I can't tell you how much this room cost because I really have no idea.  It definitely wasn't the least expensive room we have, but it is also the biggest.  And like I said, this was the hardest room for me to finish because of the creative block.  But I'm very happy with it.  Now if we can just keep it clean...

The next big piece of furniture that is blocking my creativity is a big glass desk in the office.  So the office looks like a tornado hit it.  I'll be on the lookout for new desk options.
